About the Project
Blackwater Solar is a proposed 600 MWac solar project in Sussex County, Virginia, offering major economic benefits and affordable clean energy to Sussex County.
-
Clean, Reliable Energy
Blackwater Solar is an 600-megawatt (MWac) project in Sussex County developed by Clēnera. The project will consist of ground-mounted solar panels installed on approximately 4,800 acres of privately-owned land in Sussex County, Virginia.
-
Economic Windfall for Sussex County
200+ jobs created during construction, increased revenue for local businesses, and $100+ million in additional tax revenue during the life of the project
-
Out of View
Minimum setbacks of 150 feet, and mature vegetation left in place to shield the project from neighbors and public roads
-
Steward of the Environment
Over 40 miles of wildlife corridors, and at least 3,000+ acres of open space and forestland. The panel areas will utilize native, pollinator-friendly seed mixes which prevent erosion, increase water quality, and establish and maintain healthy soil.
-
Good, Quiet Neighbors
Solar farms make great neighbors. After construction, the project generates almost no noise, and generates minimal traffic. Evidence also shows that large solar facilities have almost no impact on neighboring property values.
-
Safe and Secure Land Use
A large solar project is a safe and temporary land use. Panels are free of hazardous chemicals, and the project posts security (“Decommissioning Bond”) with the County to ensure the land is returned to prior condition when it is finished operating.
